Mondaino, ancient Malatesta fortress

Mondaino has many surprises in store: there is a beautiful circular square where the famous Palio del Daino is held in August, a fortress from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea and the hinterland, in the historic village there are walkways on which mysterious stories are told.

Then there are the views of the alleys, the noble palaces and a museum where you collect the fossil remains of animals who inhabited these lands millions of years ago

As if that were not enough, there is a botanical park with the most interesting examples of Mediterranean flora and there is the great initiative of citizens always ready to organize parties, shows and cultural events.

The historical centre

In the historical centre there are also the Convent of the Poor Clares, with wooden choir and crucifixes of the XVII century, and the Parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo, built, according to ancient documents, on the ruins of the Roman temple of Diana

Inside you can admire interesting paintings by G. Picchi (15th century), a Deposition by Pomarancio (16th century) and three splendid frontals with floral and fruit decorations from the 18th century.

The Experimental Arboretum of the Mediterranean Flora, with museum, greenhouse and refreshment area, is a real green oasis in which 2,000 different species of Mediterranean flora are collected.

The Palio del Daino

It is the main event of Mondaino: the whole village relives the Middle Ages. For 4 days the various districts of Mondaino compete for a prize with games, challenges and tenzoni of medieval and Renaissance tradition. Shows, parades and ceremonies are the setting for the various events. The setting is excellent and involves the whole country

The organization of the Pro Loco and the Municipality is impeccable. Not only the scenography (fittings, lights, costumes and stalls, etc.) but also all the gastronomic aspects of the festival are particularly taken care of and appreciated by the numerous audiences
